FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Apparel Company focuses on style and social awareness
LOS ANGELES – When the fight for social justice meets with style and fashion, the result is a statement that cannot be ignored or denied. Statement Clothing Online, a clothing and apparel company, is merging fashion and justice with the hope of bringing about social awareness and change.
Statement Clothing Online was formed out of the desire to create thought-provoking pieces that would inspire conversations around social issues.
The company launched its T-shirt line on February 26, 2013, the one-year anniversary of the death of Trayvon Martin. Martin, a 17-year-old African American male was fatally shot while walking home unarmed in a south Florida suburb. His death and the details surrounding his death received international attention and evoked a greater call for social justice and equality. Martin’s death is also the inspiration behind Statement Clothing Online. Its initial line of T-shirts and hoodies is dedicated to the Martin case with statements that read “I Am Not A Criminal” and “Don’t Shoot” boldly displayed on the front.
Branden P. Lark, founder and Creative Director of Statement Clothing Online, hopes the line will continue the dialogue that Martin’s death started while drawing attention and action to other cases and inequalities that go unnoticed daily.
“There are a number of issues that have been overlooked for so long and it’s time that someone did something unique and creative about the issues to reach the masses on a larger scale,” Lark said.
Statement Clothing Online designs, although inspired by the Martin case, touch on an array of social causes. The company’s designs draw attention to the judicial system, environmental issues, gender and sexual orientation discrimination as well as racial inequalities to name a few. Through the line and subsequent Statement Clothing Online products, the company aims to raise awareness around the issues that inherently affect the world at large.
“The issues are being touched on in small groups,” Lark said. “By making bold statements on clothing, it gives voice to people who may be afraid to speak up for fear of being judged or ridiculed.
“The designs will hopefully spark new conversations and get people to think about issues that we overlook because they don’t directly affect us.”
Statement Clothing Online is also partnering with charitable organizations and foundations to further the cause of social equity. Proceeds from the sale of Statement Clothing Online products benefit charities whose missions align with that of Statement Clothing. Proceeds from the “Don’t Shoot” line benefit the Trayvon Martin Foundation exclusively. Through charitable efforts and the creation of designs that push the social envelope, Statement Clothing Online aims to build bonds among society in a unified fight for justice.
